Producer Naga Vamsi to Get Rs 22 Crore from YRF
The much-hyped action thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has not lived up to the massive expectations at the box office, especially in the Telugu states. The Telugu rights were acquired at a hefty price, but poor reception left buyers struggling with losses. In this situation, reports suggest Producer Naga Vamsi to get Rs 22 crore from YRF after War 2 as a relief measure. While official confirmation is still pending, the news has created a buzz in film circles.

YRF’s Compensation Move
According to reports, the Telugu version of War 2 was bought by Naga Vamsi and his partners for around Rs 80 crore. However, the film underperformed drastically, leaving distributors in a tough spot. To manage these losses, Yash Raj Films is said to have returned Rs 22 crore to Naga Vamsi through structured settlements across various regions—Rs 10 crore in Nizam, Rs 7 crore in Andhra, and Rs 5 crore in Ceded.
This compensation step reflects how big production houses are now stepping in to protect local buyers when films fail to meet box office expectations. It also shows the risks involved in investing in pan-India projects, where hype doesn’t always guarantee collections.
Star Power vs Audience Reception
War 2 was promoted as the sixth film in YRF’s ambitious spy universe, boasting high-octane action, international stunts, and a stellar cast including Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Ashutosh Rana. Yet, star power and scale failed to convince audiences, showing once again that strong storytelling matters more than just spectacle.
The underperformance of such a big-budget film highlights the unpredictability of audience tastes. Even though YRF tried to make it a pan-India entertainer, the Telugu states proved to be the weakest market.
Naga Vamsi’s Upcoming Project
Meanwhile, Naga Vamsi isn’t letting this setback slow him down. His next production, Mass Jathara starring Ravi Teja, was initially set for release on August 27 but has now been postponed. Featuring Sreeleela and Rajendra Prasad in key roles, the film is expected to bring back the festive commercial vibe once it hits theatres on its new release date.
